Non-occupational lead exposure notifications rise in 2024, with paint the leading source

Our surveillance reports on non-occupational lead absorption notifications have just been updated with 2024 data. 

Non-occupational lead absorption notifications increased in 2024 across adults and children, with lead-based paint remaining the most common exposure source.
Rates were highest among males aged 55–64, European/Other ethnic groups, and residents of the Whanganui district.
