  • COVID-19 declared a PHEIC in 2020
  • Polio has remained a PHEIC since it was first declared in 2014
  • Ebola in Kivu lifted as a PHEIC in 2020

  • NZ consumed 7.4% less energy in 2020 than in 2019
  • Asthma prevalence in children has declined in 2020/21
  • Most leptospirosis cases are people with at-risk occupations
  • Children under five years have the highest hospitalisation rates for ‘Other and unspecified chemicals and noxious substances’, ‘Organic solvents and halogenated hydrocarbons and their vapours’ and ‘Pesticides’
  • Ammonia and carbon monoxide were the most commonly notified substances in 2020
